Hello! My name is Jorge Hermes. I am Brazilian, a native Portuguese speaker and fluent in English (C2 level), with beginner knowledge of German and Spanish. Since childhood, I have nurtured a passion for technology and continuous learning, starting my journey in programming at the age of 8. Outside the professional environment, I am a curious, dedicated, and collaborative person who values work-life balance. I enjoy reading classic and technical literature, engaging in physical activities, attending technology events, and also appreciate music, detective series, and RPG games.
Currently, I work as a DevOps Engineer Intern at DreamSquad, where I configure and maintain CI/CD pipelines focused on agility, security, and internal quality control, automate operational processes and routines, support cloud infrastructure troubleshooting for client companies, and create and maintain system-layer monitoring for clients. Previously, I worked on the Software Architecture team at Gaudium, delivering critical features using Go, PHP, and Redis, and applying advanced observability for high-performance system monitoring. My professional experience also includes technical leadership in the PET-Saúde Digital program at the Ministry of Health, where I focused on data intelligence, relational modeling, and governance of sensitive public health information. Among my highlighted projects, I emphasize SIGRA, an academic space reservation management system for UEPA Ananindeua, where I led the architecture, DevOps, infrastructure, and engineering teams end-to-end in production; my open-source contributions to Kener, a status page and uptime monitoring platform; my public AWS Terraform modules (EC2, VPC, Security Groups, Auto Scaling); and my engineering contributions to Roblox systems, which have already surpassed 800 million visits.
Academically, I am a 5th-semester Software Engineering student at the State University of Pará (UEPA), with a GPA of 4.0. I am recognized for my engagement and leadership, acting as class representative, peer mentor, collaborator in labs, extension projects, and the Academic Center (CAESoft). I always strive to foster a collaborative and mutually growing environment, bridging academic theory with solving complex real-world problems.
I have a strong commitment to the technology community. I am the first GitHub Campus Expert and the first AWS Student Builder Group Leader in Northern Brazil — two recognitions that reflect my commitment to building and growing the tech ecosystem in the Amazon region. As an AWS Student Builder Campus Leader, I founded and lead the AWS Student Builder Group at UEPA, today 314+ members and an international reference of leadership and group success — SBGLs and SBCLs from other regions and countries reach out to me for guidance on replicating the model, which inspired chapters at UFPA, UNAMA, IFPA, Estácio, Faci Wyden and Cruzeiro do Sul, and I have mentored and invited new leaders to turn their universities into official groups. We have run three free technical events open to students and the wider community: our first meetup, on cloud fundamentals, with 200+ in-person attendees, the 1st CTF in cloud computing focused on AWS security vulnerabilities, and AWS AI&ML Day — all organized and funded 100% by volunteers. Our core team holds 80% employability in tech, with 5 of 6 members AWS certified (two at Associate level). In September 2026, I was the only AWS Student Builder Group Leader in Brazil selected to speak at the AWS Summit São Paulo, presenting on DevOps practices at the Community Developer Lounge. I also hold leadership roles at Kortex UFPA (technology and innovation), Kernel UEPA (Linux and systems), and GruPy Pará (Python community). As a volunteer organizer, I am part of the team behind AWS Community Day Norte and Python Norte 2026, and have contributed to past events including the Leveling Program for freshmen at UEPA and UFPA, BRACIS, FOSS4G, Python Norte — where I gave a talk on serverless architecture —, UEPA Freshman Week, and the UEPA Vocational Fair. I also designed and delivered a "Structured Programming in C" workshop for public school students and represent UEPA in the Porãygua Dev Group community.
My main technical skills cover DevOps & DevSecOps (Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Ansible), Cloud Engineering (AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, AWS Certified AI Practitioner, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner 912/1000, Google Cloud, serverless), data orchestration (Astronomer Certified for Apache Airflow 3 Fundamentals), observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir, OpenTelemetry), backend development (Go, Python, PHP, TypeScript, Node.js), and security (Google Cybersecurity Certificate, Secure Architecture Design, DevSecOps). My current goal is to specialize as a DevSecOps Engineer, automating and securing the full software delivery pipeline — from code to production.
